WE’RE NOT AS CONCERNED ABOUT HELPING YOU GET YOUR LICENSE AS WE ARE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS.
The MBDA Programs differ from traditional programs in many ways. We use what we call a "coaching method" to teach in addition to the traditional "instructor" method. This will help involve students in critical thinking and decision making instead of simply following directions. Our coaches pose questions to teens pertaining to driving situations, and then allow them to produce the right answers. Instead of telling them the correct steps to take before a right turn, we ask them what the correct steps are. Instead of telling them they approached a turn too quickly, we ask them to tell us how they think they did. This literally puts them in the driver’s seat and helps to ensure that they continue to learn and teach themselves, even when they are driving solo in future. We activate their mind to actively take over responsibility.
Another unique difference in our programs is that we emphasize parent involvement. Teens learn a lot from their parents, including how to drive - either directly or indirectly. We aim to aid their learning by educating parents on how to be safe drivers as well, which enables them to be good role models while behind the wheel. And we keep them involved throughout the entire program. It starts with parent attendance at an orientation session with their teens, and then continues by giving them tools to track their teen’s progress and the ability to attend certain driving sessions as the program continues.
Our programs also promote risk awareness, responsibility and good decision-making, both on the road and in classroom sessions with problem-solving exercises and peer-to-peer learning. We believe the more realistic the driver’s education program, the better teens will be able to act and react in actual driving situations.
